I got into the sport of skydiving through a good friend of mine who decided
to try it for her birthday. That's all she talked about for two weeks after
she made her first jump. I kept telling her she was insane for jumping out
of an airplane! Finally after all her exciting talk about it, I decided to
try it.
I had never been in an airplane before and was I ever scared! As soon as the
plane took off, I kept wondering what the heck am I doing? I kept looking
out the window all the way up and thinking we are really high up. Every few
seconds I was telling myself that it is not too late to say no. Then the
moment of truth arrived and I got to the door with my tandem instructor. I
realized if I am going to say no, now was the time. I kept my mouth shut
and the next thing I knew we were falling through the air. I kept thinking
"Oh man, this is incredible". I pulled the ripcord at the appropriate
altitude and then we had a nice beautiful canopy ride. We had a soft stand
up landing and the first words out of my mouth were "I have got to do that
again".
I had about fifteen jumps under my belt before I ever landed in an airplane.
I cannot begin to describe the feeling of flying your body unaided by a
machine. So come on out and give it a try. You won't regret it. See ya in
the air!
