Hi there! Do you want to make a jump? As a matter of fact, that is my exact
words to everyone who shows up at the drop zone to "watch!" Skydiving is a
major part of my life and I really love sharing it with others......How about
you?!.
I made my "First Jump" while living in Texas (I was born and raised in
Maine); I answered an ad in a local sell everything and anything
publication. It was a static line jump and let me tell you.....I was scared.
I moved back to Maine and really started to learned to skydive at a small
drop zone in Norridgewock Maine. My partner, Tonney Boan, was co-owner of
that operation at the time. It has been through this great sport of
skydiving, that I have met most of my closest friends. Two of them Rich &
Johnna Poulin (Owners, Central Maine Skydiving), introduced me to the woman
who stole my heart and became my wife; Cheryl is a skydiver too. You can
read more about her, us, and our family on
her web page.
For a number of
reasons we moved the skydiving operation to Pittsfield Maine. Rich and I,
along with many others worked hard to obtain our Instructional ratings and
introduce people to Sport Skydiving. I moved to Virginia in 1992 and in the
fall of 1993 formed a partnership and opened Skydive Virginia! at the Louisa
county airport with Tonney.
In addition to my student, training I also am a videographer and just
earned by private pilot ticket. Although, with my dedication to skydiving,
it is quite difficult accumulating those flight hours.
In my 3000 skydives and 15 years of skydiving, I have made many memorable
jumps. Some of the most rewarding of life experiences have been to share in
someone elses "thrill of a life time." Yeah, I've been on World Record
Attempts and lots of other "Big Ways," however, it's hard for me to compare
them to the feeling I get from a Tandem with someone who is physically
challenged or the grin that just won't quit on the face of a student who just
made their "First Jump."
My wife and I joke about being in our "old age" and she wheeling me up to the
plane in a wheelchair so that I can make a skydive......I'm sure when I'm 100
or so, she'll be doing just that!
Please visit us at Skydive Virginia! Until then, I'll try and think of a new
opening line. However, it will probably be... "do you want to make a jump?".
